Ah, Mythbusters! You are my favorite show on TV! Well, you’re tied with Daily Show, but still…
Anyway, so the other night, Siskita and I were watching a recent episode of Mythbusters and I realized how much I really appreciate co-host Adam Savage’s enthusiasm for the myths. It’s probably what I identify with most about the show, frankly, so I decided to record this minute-long audio clip in honor of Adam Savage, fellow knowledge-geek:
Originally recorded: 11.48pm EDT, 28 May 2009 – New York, NY
Back in the hay day of the first Internet bubble, there was a website called AudioBlogger.com. It was a spin-off of Blogger.com only it would eventually go belly-up. This was sad for a lot of folks, including me–I was doing a series called “ThePhlog” (ThePhone Log) where I would phone in blog posts from where ever I happened to be. This was kinda fun, and now that I live in NYC I kind of miss the ability to phone in a blog post from where ever I am. Well, as luck would have it, there’s a new service called AudioBoo.FM which is very similar to that old AudioBlogger site, only instead of phoning it in, you iPhone it in.
AudioBoo.FM has an iPhone app that you use to record audio clips up to 5 minutes long. So, now it RETURNS!! I have no idea how they’ll make money, but they’ve got a stack of users and they’re free, so HERE WE GO!!
What follows below are the first 3 eps of the new ThePhlog podcast!! YEAH!!
So, this morning, when I woke up, I started listening to today’s podcast from http://DemocracyNow.org/ to learn that today is "Abortion Provider Appreciation Day" and not only does it mark the 31st year the day has been celebrated in the city of Albany, New York, it’s also the day, according to the DN broadcast (transcript here: http://www.democracynow.org/…e_abortion ): "Governor Eliot Spitzer is addressing the Family Planning Advocates of New York State. Shortly after taking office last year, Spitzer introduced a bill that would declare abortion a fundamental right for women. The bill would also ensure abortion remains legal in New York should the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade."
Bad news, ladies!
Turns out that Eliot has *also* been caught red-handed setting up a meeting with what the New York Times calls "a high-priced prostitute." So, maybe my headline, claiming Spitzer "hired" a hooker, isn’t entirely accurate, but I hardly think you set up a doctor’s appointment if you’re not planning on getting, uh, some work done–if youknowwhatImean.
So, isn’t that great? He’s all set to protect a woman’s right to choose when he gets caught encouraging a woman’s right to charge.
Another "great" thing is that America doesn’t get to have another discussion about women’s rights–instead we get another discussion about how politicians suck.
OK, well, it’s the next morning and it looks like I screwed up the numbers last night–I forgot that the Dems dole out delegates based on percentage of the vote, unlike the Repubs. So, Obama is actually in the lead, but with primaries running until June, it’s still very much in the air. Weeeee!
Meh… it turns out iTunes can’t see the mp3 track above when it tries to pull it down as a podcast. Lame. Looks like my quest for a phone-blogging solution continues!
I’ve signed up at gcast.com, but they admit up front that their site only works with a flash player and doesn’t link to a specific mp3 file. The problem with this is that I want to have one feed for all the media on my site. Not one for my phone blog and another for any pre-recorded audcasts I do as well. Damn, audioblogger.com was so cool! :( And Odeo.com doesn’t take calls from phones anymore, nor does it’s onboard, web-based recorder work worth a damn (at least in Firefox for Mac). Hm…
Sadly, I had to manually paste this direct link to the mp3 file and there is no way (that I could find) to have Gabcast.com automatically post a direct link to the mp3–thus making it work inside of a podcast. So, sadly, until someone points me to a free post-audio-from-a-phone service, ThePhlog will no longer be updated. :(
I’m hoping to pick up a Sidekick 3 one of these years which will allow me (hopefully) to upload videos directly from my phone that will be included in a podcast, but who knows? With all of the competing formats these days it’s tough to say what will work and what won’t. I’m still hoping that the format that the iPod and PSP plays–the mp4–will become the standard for video just like mp3s have become the standard for audio, but still there are apps that don’t like mp4 files that don’t have the “.avi” extension, which cracks me up since “.avi” could mean just about anything. Ah well, let’s hope for a bright future for mobile blogging. :)

In this episode of ThePhlog, I talk about how funny it is that within days of habeas corpus being yanked from the list of rights all humans on Earth have, according to the US Constitution and within days of Bob Woodward’s new book telling us all how Bush and Co. have lied to us regarding just how bad the war in Iraq really is, we get the Mark Foley sex scandal.
Isn’t it funny how the sources for the Foley story were all Republicans?
Seems like the Bush Admin decided to make Foley the sacrificial lamb!
In this episode The 5 Minute Show’s Alexander Fazel (Gary TheIntern) joins us for some behind-the-scenes chat on t5MS, acting, movies, and more. ThePete regails us with one of his famous showbiz stories and SiSi lets us in on how she is trained as a bartender. For all of the above and other exciting audio, LISTEN NOW!! ;)
